Zoloft
Pfizer zoloft is a prescription medication used for treatment of a number of brain diseases. Generic Zoloft is made by several manufacturers. Zoloft can be used to treat a number of diseases, including:
- Panic disorder
- Social anxiety disorder.
- Depression (clinical)
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Zoloft belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (in short, SSRIs). SSRIs act with serotonin. Serotonin sends messages from one nerve cell to another. When a message goes down a nerve cell, it causes the end of neuron to release serotonin. After that serotonin fills the gap between the one nerve cell and the one next to it. If enough serotonin reaches the second nerve cell, the receptors on the cell activate and the message continues going. Then the first cell absorbs any serotonin that remains between cells. This process is called "reuptake".
Usually, it works without problem. But if the levels of serotonin are unbalanced, there may come up some conditions, including depression and panic attacks. Zoloft helps in blocking the serotonin reuptake so that more serotonin remains in the gap between nerve cells. It makes it easier for the serotonin to activate the next nerve cell.
Zoloft comes in tablets (zoloft 50 mg) or in a liquid form. Usually Zoloft is taken once a day. Zoloft oral concentrate can be mixed with half a cup of water, orange juice, lemonade, ginger ale, or lemon-lime soda. You shouldn't mix Zoloft oral concentrate with any other beverages. If Zoloft makes you drowsy, try to take it before going to sleep. Zoloft can be taken with or without food. It is recommended to take Zoloft at the same time each day to maintain the appropriate level of the drug in your blood. Please follow your prescription when taking Zoloft, otherwise it will not work.
